The jewerly
All Carraro Jewels listed are made out of 18 kt gold. This means for every 1000 parts, 750 parts are of pure gold (like the stamp on your gold indicates), or otherwise explained, 75% is pure gold and 25% are alloys (most commonly: zinc, copper, silver, palladium or nickel).
This is true for any piece, whether it’s yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold. While the 75% pure gold part is the same for every single piece, the 25% alloy part composition varies depending on the final gold color we want to obtain: e.g. more copper for rose gold, more silver for white gold.
Our white gold jewelry is made using special alloys that are close to "silvery" shades of color and have copper, zinc and nickel as components (the latter in minimal amounts strictly compliant with REACH – EN 1811.2011 European standards). To obtain an even brighter white, the wedding rings are also subjected to a bath of rhodium, a precious metal from the platinum family, capable of permanently giving the desired bright white appearance.
Daily use of rhodium plated jewelry, especially rings, will likely cause the rhodium surface layer to slowly wear off overtime. For this reason we advise getting top-up rhodium plating treatments (every couple of years or as needed) at a local jeweler’s or goldsmith's laboratory.
Because our priority is quality and longevity, we only create jewelry in 18 kt solid gold. We don’t cut corners and we choose not to work with cheaper, worse quality gold.
18 kt gold is widely recognized as the most durable gold choice for wedding and engagement rings and other fine jewelry that is aimed at being worn very often or even daily.
18K gold is also much more pure than 14 kt gold: it is made up of 75% gold and 25% other metals, versus only 58,5% gold present in 14 kt gold and only 37,5% in 9 kt gold. This alloy not only contains more real gold than other cheaper alloys, but it also increases its strength and resistance to shocks.
18 kt and 18 kt gold measure similarly on hardness and malleability (similarly prone to scratches), however they measure very differently on elongation percentage, which defines the breaking point of the material. 14 kt gold is more brittle and more likely to crack, especially on prongs.
Many of our rings’ bands measure as thin as 2 mm, and that is our minimum threshold. We do not produce engagement or wedding rings bands under 2 mm thickness.
Our goal is to bring expert Italian craftsmanship to the forefront of today’s fine jewelry offering, which too often in our opinion puts profits before quality.
We prioritize the durability of the jewels we create and that sometimes means ditching more “fashionable” trends like extra thin bands, which compromise the durability of the pieces we create.
All our wedding rings and plain bands in yellow or rose gold are nickel-free, so they are safe to wear in case of nickel allergy.
The rest of our jewelry does contain minimal amounts of nickel, fully compliant with European Regulation REACH on nickel release for objects that are in prolonged contact with the human body (EN 1811.2011).

Our pieces are crafted from solid 18K gold, making them long-lasting and excellent for everyday wear. However, you should follow a few precautions to make sure your jewelry doesn’t get damaged and keeps its optimal shine.
We strongly recommend removing your Carraro jewelry if you’re coming into prolonged contact with chlorinated (pool/hot tub) water and bleach. When in contact with salt water, rinse well after use.
We recommend removing your Carraro jewelry during physical activity, e.g. water sports, going to the gym, or cleaning, to avoid any bending, scratching, or loss.
Salt, chlorine and cleaning agents will corrode and weaken thinner areas, for example, the prongs of your ring, compromising the hold of prongs on your diamonds, and therefore risking losing the diamonds.
We also recommend removing your Carraro jewelry when applying lotion, makeup, or sunscreen. These products tend to create a film on the jewelry, creating product buildup that will make the gold and diamonds look dull and opaque.
We chose to work exclusively with lab diamonds primarily to reduce our environmental and human impact.
We also wanted to offer an exceptional fine jewelry collection at fair prices.
We want to cater to conscious consumers who opt more and more for sustainable alternatives: steering away from fast fashion, while being able to afford those elusive quality items. This is where we come in.
With lab diamonds you will get top-grade cut, clarity and color, while being able to afford much bigger carat sizes compared to mined diamonds.
A lab-controlled environment often means higher quality gems with fewer inclusions.
The 4Cs in our diamonds:
- Color: our diamonds are only D-E-F color (the 3 most colorless on the scale).
- Clarity: our diamonds are VVS1-VS2 (invisible to the naked eye).
- Cut: our diamonds are all ideal or excellent cut.
- Carat: whatever you like!
As a rule of thumb, all our round diamonds are IGI-certified from CT 0.5 and up, while our fancy-shaped diamonds are IGI-certified from CT 1.00 and up, or upon request.
The certificate(s) will be included in your order when you receive it. You can check whether any piece is made with certified stones in the product details.
