Finding the perfect ring size is crucial to ensure comfort and security, but can also be tricky. To make things as easy and accurate as possible, we recommend that you visit a local goldsmith or jeweler and get your ring professionally sized. If that is not an option for you, then keep reading.
Follow our detailed guide to determine your correct ring size.
Tips for Accurate Measurement
- Measure at the Right Temperature: Avoid measuring when your hands are cold, as this can result in a smaller size. Similarly, avoid measuring when it's too warm, after a flight, workout or sauna, as this can result in a bigger size.
- Repeat a Few Times: Measure your finger a few times and at different times of the day to ensure accuracy.
- Consider the Band Width: Wider bands may require a slightly larger size for a comfortable fit, especially if the circumference of your finger varies with length.
- Remember Your Knuckles: when you measure your finger, make sure you not only can wear it comfortably at the base of your finger, but that you can also remove it comfortably sliding it past your knuckle.
Understanding Ring Sizes
In Europe, ring sizes are usually measured in millimeters and can be determined by either the inner diameter of a ring that already fits you well or the circumference of your chosen finger. Use the methods below to find your ideal ring size.
Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring
- Select a Ring: Choose a ring that fits the intended finger comfortably.
-
Measure the Diameter:
- If you have a caliper, use it to measure the inner diameter of the ring. If you don't have one, place the ring on an accurate ruler or measuring tape.
- Measure the inside diameter of the ring from inner edge to inner edge.
- Find Your Size on the Table: Use the diameter measurement to find your ring size in the table below.
Method 2: Measure Your Finger
-
Get a measuring tape:
- Ideally, you want a soft measuring tape that can wrap around your finger
- If you don't have a soft measuring tape, take or a ribbon or a string
-
Measure Your Finger:
- With the measuring tape: wrap it around the base of your finger and read the number of your circumference.
- With a ribbon/string, wrap it around the base of your finger and mark where the ends meet. Measure the length of the paper/string with a ruler to get the circumference.
- Find Your Size on the Table: Use the circumference measurement to find your ring size in the table below. Make sure you are able to slip the ribbon or measuring tape over your knuckle, to ensure you will be able to remove the ring.
